In 2004 God called a pastor from Northern Brazil named Ezequias Santos. The Lord was preparing Pastor Santos and his family to plant a church within a foreign country. In October the same year he was sent to visit Europe. The countries he visited were Portugal, Spain and France.
When he returned from his travels, the Holy Spirit confirmed that the country they should go to was the United Kingdom and on the 1st of January 2005 Pastor Santos and his family arrived for the first time in England. They came firstly to study missions at YWAM (Youth With a Mission), which is a Christian organization in Harpenden near Luton. YWAM prepares young people to be missionaries all over the world.
After the completion of the missions course Pastor Santos joined a Portuguese church in London where he stayed for three months and then went back to Brazil to get his missionary visa.
On the 8th of February 2006 Pastor Santos and his family arrived again in the UK aiming to plant churches. They then travelled to Manchester on the 16th of February 2006 and this was the starting of the ministry where his only family was the church members (this was a hard time! remembers Pastor Santos). A month later Jesus started moving by sending people to join them.
On the 1st of April 2006 the church opened its doors officially under the name of Igreja Assembleia de Deus de Manchester, which means Manchester Assemblies of God Church. The church was counting with only 15 attendants but this did not discourage them as they were far more excited about the things to come.
Today after six years, the ministry has spread and by the grace of God we have congregations for Portuguese, Spanish and English speakers in Liverpool, Wakefield/Barnsley, Southport and Leeds. The ministry has its own building situated in Hulme, Manchester.
'God has been faithful and marvellous to us. To Him be the glory for ever and ever'.
This life was not intended to be the place of our perfection, but the preparation for it.
